What is the Difference Between Amazon Echo, Dot, and Tap?

Amazon has developed three products: Echo, Tap and Dot.  The devices act as a voice activated personal assistant that can answer questions, play music, play the news, and even control home automation systems to do such things as turn lights on and off.
