Touchscreen Technology

Mungo Darkmatter talks about touchscreen technology.

Although I really love touchscreen technology on portable devices, I think it has its place.  Just as I wouldn't expect a person to use a mouse on a smartphone, I also wouldn't expect them to reach across a desk to use a 24 inch touchscreen instead of a mouse.

What can you do with 33 Raspberry Pi's?

How do you make a low powered, cheap, deck of cards sized, computer a super computer? Run 33 of them in a cluster.

The Raspberry Pi is a cheap, compact, computer for experimenting and learning. You can get one for under $50. Josh Kiepert built a custom case and put 33 of them together and used the Linux OS and Beowulf clustering software to run them in a cluster so that they can be used as one very powerful computer to run a distributed software simulation.

He earns extra Mungo Maniac points for adding the colored LEDs to make the case look cooler.  The makers of ENIAC, the first electronic computer, put ping pong balls over the display light bulbs to jazz up its look for a newsreel, so there is a long tradition of incorporating bling into computers.

Kiepert also overclocked each of the 33 Raspberry Pi's, which has to make liquid cooled overclocking modders step back and take a look.

Book Review - Positive Leadership

Mungo Darkmatter reviews the book Positive Leadership.

Positive Leadership by Steve Gladis:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0989131408?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=0989131408&linkCode=xm2&tag=mungodarkm-20

We seek happiness in so many places: In money, in fame, in possessions. We never really think to seek happiness itself and let the rest fall in place. Positive Leadership, by Steve Gladis, is to happiness and a positive lookout as Stephen Covey’s First Things First is to time management. It will help you focus on the things that lead to happiness and a positive attitude. Although the idea behind the book is becoming a positive leader and influencing your team and team members in a positive way, anyone can benefit from the book, because in order to become a positive leader, you need to become a positive person first.

The book provides the reader with various ways to focus on positive relationships, personal strengths, and positive attitudes. For example, many of us get caught up in trying to improve our weaknesses, when it is our strengths we should focus on. We do need to find ways to negate or delegate our weaknesses, but would you rather focus your time and efforts on becoming mediocre at something you are bad at, or would you rather focus on becoming the best at what you are good at?

The book is split into two parts. The first part is like a “How To” on positivity that is backed up with plenty of research and examples. The second part is a narrative where you are shown the material through the eyes of fictional characters that are being transformed by the principles of positive leadership. The great thing about the way that it is written is that not only do the two parts complement each other, but book has two different ways to resonate with different types of readers.
